Church text

Our church text for 2008 is Jude 2:

'Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.'

What happens on a Sunday morning?

It can be a bit strange to walk into church for the first time, but don’t worry. Here’s what to expect when you visit us.

We meet in a school hall so the place doesn’t look churchy at all. You will notice a banner or two, the musicians, a computer projection system and PA. Someone will say ‘hello’ to you as you come in and you will be given our weekly newssheet.

The service starts at 10:30am.

When the service starts we will sing or song or two, and at other points in the service. We usually stand to sing, but if you can’t stand or don’t want to that’s fine. Most of the songs we sing are quite modern, but we sing traditional hymns too. If you don’t want to sing, or don’t know the songs, feel free to sit back and listen.

We love to welcome children and we understand that younger children can sometimes be hard work. Don’t worry – we will try to help you and we won’t get upset if they are a bit noisy! We start with all ages together, but in the second half of the service we run age related groups for the children which we hope your child will enjoy! (Occasionally we have ‘all age services’ which are shorter. These will be noted on the web site.)

One or two songs may be specially aimed at the children. Feel free to join in as much or as little as you want!

We celebrate communion, usually on the second and fourth Sunday of the month. If you believe in Jesus as Lord you are welcome to take the bread and wine. Just take a piece of bread when it is offered and eat it. When the cups are passed round we usually keep them and all drink together at the same time, as a sign of our ‘oneness.’ If you do not wish to take the bread and wine please just pass them on.

We also take time to pray, to hear God’s word from the Bible and someone preaches a ‘sermon.’ This means they talk about the Bible and what it means for us today. We try to be lively and relevant to today’s world. You can hear our recent sermons by downloading them from the website.

We finish by 12 noon, after which we serve refreshments. You are welcome, if you wish, to stay behind for a short while and get to know us better.

We hope you will enjoy your visit. If you would like to know more please do contact us.
